Art enthusiasts, collectors and members of the community turned out in impressive numbers last week as Cayman Art Week 2026 showcased the vibrancy and diversity of the Cayman Islands’ creative sector.

The celebration – between 26 and 31 May – featured free exhibitions, artist talks, studio tours and special events across the three islands.

It highlighted the work of local and resident artists while providing opportunities for the public to engage directly with the islands’ thriving arts community.

And to help art lovers get from one venue to another, hop-on hop-off bus services were offered in both Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.

An official launch was held on 27 May at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, which was the lead partner of the festival.

Natalie Urquhart, Cayman Art Week founder and National Gallery director, told those gathered: “Six years ago, I founded Cayman Art Week with an idea to support artists with a platform that would promote and celebrate local talent and help generate sales.

“Six years on, CAW has become one of the biggest creative events of the year – with numerous art events running across all three islands and with hundreds of artists showing their work.”

She said this was a testament not only to the enduring popularity of art as something to buy and collect, but as a way of communicating and connecting with others in our community and beyond.

Parliamentary secretary for culture and heritage, Julie Hunter, also spoke at the launch and artist Randy Chollette, whose work is currently on display at the National Gallery, put on a drumming performance.

Speaking to Cayman Independent this week, Urquhart said this year’s Cayman Art Week had been a resounding success.

She said: “Founded with the goal of building a sustainable art market in the Cayman Islands, Cayman Art Week celebrates creativity while actively supporting the sale of art and the success of artists and venues.

“CAW26 has been an outstanding year in both respects, reflecting the continued growth and momentum of the local arts sector.”
